World Bank Aided Project on "Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management" (CBIPM)

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) will undertake the "Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management Project" to be funded by the World Bank. The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Govt. of India is the coordinator of this project. The major components of this project are : Remediation of the identified illegal dumpsites of hazardous wastes at Hooghly District and the MSW dumpsite of Kolkata Municipal Corporation at Dhapa, Kolkata. The MoEF, Govt. of India has engaged M/s Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats (ICT) Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi for an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Study for the sites to be remediated. M/s ICT Pvt. Ltd. has done the study and has also prepared the draft Study Report. Public Consultation on the environmental and social assessment of the project is expected to be held in the 3rd week of January 2009, during which all comments received on the said report will be taken into consideration. Hence, interested organizations, Authorities, Industries, Associations, Individuals may send in their comments on the report to the Member Secretary, WBPCB through e-mail ( or may write to the Member Secretary, Paribesh Bhawan, 10A, Block-LA, Sector-III, Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata-700098 within 17.01.2009. The said report will be finalized after completion of the public consultation.
